Special Call for Volunteers for Cherry Pit 10 Miler

Seeking volunteers to help a recent 5K class member and now Race Director Tess Zangrill and of course your fellow Annapolis Striders who are running the race.

The Annapolis Striders is an all volunteer organization. If you recently attended a training class, pay it forward and volunteer, as a thank you to your coaches.

Check this list of volunteer needs and sign up!

A note from Race Director, Tess: “I’ll take pretty much anything I can get. I have a critical need for 2 monitoring spots in particular, any sort of setup for food while the runners are out, and any folks who don’t mind moving some gear (i.e., tables) would be most helpful (particularly after leaving the event). And if you can drive a box truck, that would help too! “

Shoe Some Love

for the Annapolis Light House A Homeless Prevention Support Center

The Annapolis Striders, Family and Friends are Collecting for:

Shoe Some Love for the Annapolis Light House a Homeless Prevention Support Center

*We collected 15 pairs of new or gently worn adult running shoes Thursday, March 9 at our Annapolis Striders March Social at P.F. Changs China Bistro and donated them to The Light House SHINE Station, 1915 Suite 145, Towne Center Blvd., Annapolis

We will collect new or gently worn men’s and women’s athletic shoes/sneakers:

*Saturday, March 25, 10:00am–3:00pm the B & A Half & Full Marathon Packet Pick Up & Sunday, March 26, 7:30am-1:30pm Race Day, at Severna Park High School, 60 Robinson Rd, Severna Park, MD 21146.

The simple act of walking from your kitchen for a meal or to your bedroom to rest, probably does not require a significant number of steps. You are easily able to navigate from room to room to address your basic needs without concern of how far you will have to walk.

For someone experiencing homelessness, simple tasks of getting something to eat, finding a place to use the restroom or a safe place to rest, can result in 1,000s of steps taken throughout the day. Having to take those steps in shoes that provide little to no support for your feet and not having the option to replace your well-worn shoes, provides both physical and mental burdens for our neighbors. Through our “Shoe some love for your neighbor” drive, we hope to provide our neighbors with quality shoes as we enter the warmer months.

WHAT WE ARE COLLECTING:

o New or gently worn men’s and women’s athletic shoes/sneakers.

o All adult sneaker sizes, styles, and brands.

o No other types of shoes or clothing can be accepted.

o Please spray any gently used shoes with disinfectant prior to donating and remember to donate with dignity!

o Please tie each pair of shoes together
