2023 Rosaryville Veteran’s Day 50k

Our 14th year!

Saturday, November 11, 2023 at 8:00 AM

Rosaryville State Park

7805 W Marlton Ave

Upper Marlboro, MD 20772

This highly anticipated trail race is scheduled to take place on November 11th, 2023 at Rosaryville State Park at 8 am. New to this year’s race is the 20K option. That’s right, you now have the option of running a 50K or 20K.

Runners are encouraged to sign up early to secure their spot for this classic trail race with old school feel.

The Rosaryville State Park course is a true gem for trail runners in search of a challenging yet picturesque route. With the majority of the course winding through deep woods, runners will be treated to stunning views of Maryland’s natural beauty. The trail itself is largely buffed out single track making it accessible to runners of all skill levels. The race starts and finishes at the Pavilion picnic area, a short distance from the perimeter trail entrance. There will also be two aid stations along the way to help keep runners hydrated and energized. For those who need to drop off any bags or gear, there will be a designated area just before the second aid station, which is only a short walk from the Start/Finish line.

trekking_in_woods.jpg

The Rosaryville Veterans Day Trail Run race committee is hosting a series of training runs to help runners get ready for the November 11th races (50K & 20K). The training runs are open to all levels of runners, and they are a great way to get some training miles while getting a chance to preview the race course. You do not need to sign up for the race to join the training run.

The third training run will be held at Rosaryville State Park on Saturday, October 7th at 8:30am. The park opens at 8am, we are planning to have shoes hit the trail at 8:30am. Please plan accordingly. There is a $3.00 park entrance fee, which is paid upon entering Rosaryville State Park. There is no additional cost to participate in the training run.

The plan is to break into three groups. The first group will do the entire 9.5-mile loop. The second group will run approximately 1.5 loops (one full loop then on the second loop we run to road crossing near the Mt. Airy Mansion and use a mix of dirt and paved roads to return to the parking lot where we started), and the third will do two loops. Groups will run approximately 12-14mpm pace depending on weather conditions and general pace of the group. There is not any water/nutrition out on the training so please make sure to bring water and nutrition you will need depending on which group you join. After the run we will have some cold water to hand out and hang out for a bit.

The perimeter trail is approximately 9.5 miles long and buffed out (not technical trail) with very little elevation change (flat). We hope to have more people join us, so come out with a friend and make some new ones too.

Annapolis Strider Kevin Wilson worked with the Principal of Crofton High School, Katie Feuerherd, to allow the school’s running track to be open to public use during non-school hours and other times it isn’t occupied pursuant to a permit.

Please refer to the email from Ms. Feuerherd:

Mr. Wilson,

After further discussion, we have made the decision to open the track to community use. For community use, the side gate closest to the field between the stadium and the tennis courts will be unlocked moving forward so that community members may access the track. Please note that use of the track may only occur during non-school hours; during times that the stadium is not being used for school extracurriculars, functions, and athletic programs; and during times that other groups (such as Recreation and Parks) have permits for use of the space.

We appreciate your follow-up inquiry and look forward to providing this opportunity to our local community members.”

As part of the American Psychiatric Association’s work to eliminate mental health disparities, each July the APA celebrates Bebe Moore Campbell National Minority Mental Health Awareness Month through the APA Moore Equity in Mental Health Initiative.

Please accept this invitation to join us on Saturday, July 29, 2023 at the USATF Certified Course at Wheaton Regional Park for the 3rd Annual APA MOORE Equity in Mental Health: Run, Walk, and Roll.

Registration is free and suggested donation is $100 to receive your race t-shirt and medal! Check out our other fundraising incentives on our race website. Funds raised benefit the APA Foundation Moore Equity in Mental Health Community Grants Program, which supports community organizations that have undertaken innovative awareness programs and/or have provided services to improve the mental health of young people of color.
