Cherry Pit 10 Mile Race Recap!

Thanks to all who came out to South River High School last Sunday (4/7/24) for our second Championship Series event, the Cherry Pit 10 Mile Race! 179 runners enjoyed a sunny spring morning as they tackled the rolling hills south of Edgewater. Edgewater’s own Kaitlyn Govatos (1:05:37) and Odenton’s Scott Koehler (59:44) notched overall victories, both having also won the first Champ Series race back in February. Participants ranged in age from 11-year-old Griffin Tabar to 82-year-old Molly Sherwood! Complete Cherry Pit results can be found at Race results , and a ton of high-resolution photos can be found at Photos .

Kudos to fill-in race director Larry Puglisi and invaluable assistants Delia Edelmann and Tom Lyden for putting everything together, and many thanks to all who served as volunteers on Sunday, including members of the Crofton High School track team!

The next race in our 2024 Championship Series will be the Dawson’s Father’s Day 10K Father’s Day 10K, taking place at Severna Park High School on Sunday, June 16th.

Feel free to email FathersDay10K@annapolisstriders.org if you’d be interested in volunteering!

Planning for the Annapolis Ten Mile Run has begun, and we are looking for some captains to join our race committee! We need people to lead Food, Merchandise, any Bib Pick-Up. No previous experience? We’ll teach you what you need to know. Running on Sunday? You can still run the race if you do Merchandise or Bib Pick-Up. Come join us as we host 3500 runners in Annapolis! Please reach out to the race directors,

Rose and Bob, with any questions or for further details.

Annapolis Striders Spring 5k Beginning Running Training

class registration is OPEN!

Class starts Tuesday, April 23, 2024, 6 PM

Bates Athletic Complex – Weems Whelan Field.

E.T./Evan Thomas Jesters

In memoriam for Coach Emeritus and 5k class founder, former Annapolis Striders President, marathoner Evan Thomas (a.k.a. E.T.), we will call ourselves “E.T.’s Jesters”. We will continue his mission and love of running with a healthier lifestyle. “Regular exercise has saved my life,” Evan wrote in his farewell Capital column in 2018. “Mostly, however, it has brought a joy I have tried to share with others.”. In 1993 he formed the first Annapolis Striders Beginning Runners Program class. He has coached thousands of participants in the sport of running. Evan was well known for his humorous antics and quirky behaviour during class and even wearing a jester’s hat to always follow Rule #1: “Have FUN!” during class. The program is a Road Runners Club of America (RRCA) award winning beginning running class. We will have “E.T. made me do it!” on the back of our spring class shirts.
