Evan Thomas, longtime Strider and legend in the running community, passed away peacefully on February 2.
Evan held just about every role in the club over the decades, from President to Race Director to Board Member to Volunteer. Evan was a true runners runner and was deservedly proud of qualifying for the Boston marathon, but never made a big deal about his running accomplishments or leadership positions.
One of Evan’s greatest legacies to the club was his leadership in the beginner running training, which was recognized by the RRCA in 2011 as Outstanding Beginning Running Program. He led by example and had an infectiously positive attitude, amplified by his the frequent use of his whistle.
Evan led his voice to running in the community, leading the way on bureaucratic issues and writing his newspaper column in the Capital. Evan also was the RRCA state representative for meant years, acting as the Club’s voice for the country.
Evan, you will be missed.
