Annapolis Striders Training/Education
Update from Bob Moseley,
VP of Training and Education
|
|
|
Current Training Programs:
We currently have 5 training programs open for runners that some of you may be interested in. Our
5K Training program
, coached by Laura Amin, is focused on training for the women’s Distance Festival, which takes place on July 12 and our
10K program
, coached by Elizabeth Nabors, is focused on training for the Dawson’s 10K, which occurs on June 15.
Junior Striders
is also open, coached by Sarah Clark and starting on May 26.
The
A10 training group
is open, headed up by Dave Dold is also open and rolling along.
Moore’s Marines Marathon Training
is now open for business, with training kicking off on Saturday, June 21; a full training program will be disseminated to all who sign up in the next week or so. Plenty of space for all interested; check out the Striders website for the exact training dates and additional information.
Coaching Call
: We are always looking for coach/mentors for our other training programs, such as the 5K, 10K, Jr. Striders and marathon groups. If you’d like to step into coaching and are interested, give me a shout. If you are experienced/RRCA-certified (or certified via another program, such as UESCA) or are interested in becoming certified, we can help pay for that training as well.
News you can use:
In our quest to become better runners, we can rely on all sorts of different programs, workouts and anecdotal tips on how to achieve our optimal race times. Almost every runner wants to know how they can train to run faster.
Improving running speed is a goal at the top of most of our lists. Of course, everything related to running comes down to numbers—in order to get a PR, you have to get a faster finish time, which means maintaining a faster pace throughout the race. What is simple in theory is difficult to execute, as many frustrated runners know that sometimes
progress in terms of becoming a faster runner
is slow.
Here’s an article that provides some details on how to employ slow running into your program to get faster:
https://marathonhandbook.com/run-slow-to-run-fast
See you on the trail (or somewhere else!).
