2018 Rosaryville Veteran’s Day 50K

Runners, here is some information about the ninth annual Rosaryville Veteran’s Day 50K on November 10, 2018:

COURSE DESCRIPTION:

The course is basically three loops run in a counter-clockwise direction around the 9.8-mile perimeter trail. It runs mostly in deep woods, though there is some meadow also. The trail is largely single track, but not very technical. The start (also the finish) is at the Pavilion picnic area about three quarters of a mile from where you enter the single-track perimeter trail. The course is marked with white pie plates and white confidence ribbons. There are other markers on the course that have been put there by other people for other purposes. Look for the white markers only.

AID STATIONS:

There are two aid stations on the perimeter trail about 4 1/2 miles apart, with a porta-pot at each one. The aid stations will have Gatorade, Pepsi, Mountain Dew, pretzels, bananas, fig newtons, cookies, and maybe some boiled potatoes. The first aid station will have the bag drop. We will transport the bags from the Start to the bag drop after the race begins.  You can access them on Laps Two and Three. We will bring them back to the pavillion after the race, or you can pick up your bag as you leave the park, if you need to leave before all the runners have finished.

New for 2018: In the interest of our dedicated volunteers and to avoid having runners on the course after the 8-hour time limit, we have added cut-off times for the third lap:

  • On Lap 3, runners must depart Aid Station #1 (about 20.4 miles) by 1:00 p.m.
  • On Lap 3, runners must depart Aid Station #2 (about 26.0 miles) by 2:30 p.m.

Note for first-time ultra trail runners: This isn’t a technical course, but admire the scenery at your peril. Roots, rocks, and stumps all nestle in the leaves, which in early November will be plentiful.

At 7:40, there will be a pre-race brief in the pavillion. Please attend.

DIRECTIONS:

From Baltimore: (Travel time approx. 1 hour.) Take Route 97 to Route 3 south. Route 3 will cross Route 50 and become Route 301 south. Follow Route 301 to Upper Marlboro. The State Park is located approximately 15 miles south of Route 50 and 4 miles south of Upper Marlboro. The park entrance is on the right.

From the Washington Beltway I-495/95: (Travel time approx. 1/2 hour.) Take exit #11, Route 4 East. Follow Route 4 to Upper Marlboro. Exit on Route 301 south for approximately 4 miles. The park entrance is on the right.

WARNING: There are two ways to enter Rosaryville State Park, from Route 301 (Yes!) and Rosaryville Road (No!).  You must enter from Hwy 301.  From the Rosaryville Road entrance, you cannot get to the start of the race!  The entrance to the park off Hwy 301 is just south of Osborne Road and Osborne Shopping Center.

RRCA Championship Event

RRCA Maryland and District of Columbia Team Competition

An award will be presented to the top scoring male team and an award will be presented to the top scoring female team, based on the net chip aggregate time of the top three fastest male and female runners, that are current members of a RRCA Maryland or D.C. running club. A team can consist of an unlimited number of runners of the same sex, but only the first three finishers will be scored in the competition. There are no mixed-sex teams. Each male and female team must separately consist of at least three finishers of the same sex in order to qualify for this award, and runners may only compete for one running club.

In order to be considered for this award, each scoring runner must be a current member of a RRCA Maryland and D.C. running club. At registration, there will be a pull down menu where you can select your running club. You must select your running club at the time of registration, and no changes to your designation will be permitted.
