The 21st Governor's Bay Bridge Run

Sunday, May 7, 2006

The Governor's Bay Bridge Run is a 10k footrace crossing the William Preston Lane Memorial Bridge over the beautiful Chesapeake Bay. Beginning on Kent Island, the course ascends 2 miles on the eastbound span to the highest point of the bridge, descends 2 miles, and then follows flat roads to finish in Sandy Point State Park. Conducted by the Annapolis Striders, the 10k run is held in conjunction with, but is separate from, the Bay Bridge Walk and is supported by the Maryland Transportation Authority and Department of Natural Resources. There is no access to the walk from the finish line at Sandy Point.

Date: Sunday, May 7, 2006

Place and Time: All runners must ride buses from Sandy Point State Park, across the bridge, to the Start Line on Kent Island. Buses will depart Sandy Point at 7:00 AM sharp. They will not pick up stragglers after the doors are shut. The Maryland Transportation Authority provides the busses and their policies will apply. Plan to arrive at Sandy Point early as entry along park roads is slowed by traffic. The park will open at 5:30 AM. Volunteers will direct parking. Water and port-o-pots will be available. Please allow adequate time to arrive safely, park, and board a bus before 6:45. Only runners will be allowed to board the busses.

Water and port-o-pots will be available in Sandy Point and at the starting line on the Kent Island side of the eastbound span.

Race start time: 8:00 AM

Rules: No headphones, no wheels, no dogs, and no runners who expect to run slower than a 12 minute/mile pace. The course will be closed, before the entrance to Sandy Point, at a time determined slower than the 12-minute/mile requirement to allow runners to begin exiting the park. Stragglers will be required to board a straggler bus to enter the park.

The course is not USTFA certified for distance and is not appropriate for wheelchairs.

Timing: The Bay Bridge Run will be using ChampionChip timing to allow runners an accurate record of their time. All runners will receive their chip at packet pickup and will be required to attach it to their shoe. Complete chip instructions will be included in the packet. Runners will be disqualified for not wearing their assigned chip. Runners are responsible for their chip and a $30.00 fee will be assessed if the chip is not returned after completion of the race.

Start Line Mats, used for chip timing, will be removed 10 minutes after the official start. Runners will need to cross the starting line prior to the mat removal to get an accurate time.

Awards: Awards will be given to the top three overall male and female and first masters, male and female, as determined by gun time. Age group awards will be given to the top three, male and female, in the following age groups: 14& under, 15-19, 20-24, 25-29, 30-34, 35-39, 40-44, 45-49, 50-54, 55-59, 60-64 male, 65-69 male, 70 & over male and 60& over female, based on participation. Age group awards are determined by chip time.

Awards will be presented after 10:00 at the Finish Line. Winners not present at the ceremony will need to make arrangements to pick up their award.
