Course
The first three miles are on
residential streets. Remainder of both races
on the B&A Trail – an asphalted bike & running path along a
Rails-to-Trails Park. Hills at mile 2 and 7. Rest of the course is
railroad grade – mostly flat. The course is USATF certified and
there are many opportunities for spectators along the trail. The
Half Marathon finish is a few blocks from the start line.
Course Map
Course Markings
Volunteers will monitor all
turns and most intersections. Each
mile of the Marathon and Half Marathon is marked. The course
will be closed to traffic but the trail itself will be open to other
runners, bikers, rollerbladers and walkers. Please be alert
and courteous.
Time Limit
The marathon course will close at six hours (about a 13:45/mile pace). We can't guarantee course support after that time. If you plan to be over 6 hours and would like an early start, please contact the race director. We will still post your time and give you a finishers' medal and make sure you're fed.
Split Times
Split times will be called at mile marks 1, 5, 10, &
13.1.
Digital clocks will be located at the finish line and the Half
Marathon point. The official clock will be maintained until the
last runner finishes.
ChampionChip Timing – NEW!!
Details are being worked
out to use the ChampionChip timing system
for the B&A Trail Marathon and Half Marathon for the first time. If you
would like to use your own chip, please enter the chip number on the
online or mail-in applications.
Aid Stations
Aid stations will include:
water, Gatorade, fruit, coke, cookies,
hard candies, aspirin and petroleum jelly. They are located at
the 3, 7, 11, 13.1, 15, 17, 20, 22, and 24 mile marks. Post race
food and beverages are available at the finish.
Race Conditions
Typical March weather, with
temperatures ranging from the low
40s to high 60s with rainy and windy conditions possible.
Medical Assistance
First aid personnel will be
stationed at Severna Park High
School; Anne Arundel Radio Club
personnel will be
monitoring the course at several points to provide emergency
communications.
Walkers
Walkers are welcome to participate in the Half Marathon only. They will start with the runners in front of the Severna Park High School. They should look for the Race Director at packet pickup and let him know that they are going to walk the half marathon course.
Volunteers
This race needs many volunteers for jobs that include packet pickup, food
service, water stops, course monitoring, and finish lines. This is a great
way for family members to see their favorite runners along the course, and to
contribute to the success of the event. Please contact Susan Zevin via
email susanzevin@comcast.net for
information and to sign up as a volunteer.
Travel and Accommodations
The closest airport to the race in Severna Park is BWI (Baltimore Washington International). All major airlines, including Southwest, are there.
The Sheraton Barcelo Hotel in Annapolis is probably the most convenient to the race site in that the entrance to Rte50 North (which leads to Rte 97, then Exit 10 Benfield Road and Severna Park High School ) is across the street from the hotel.
Other hotels close by include Loews Annapolis and Annapolis Holiday Inn. There are other hotels and B&B type
accommodations which you can reach via Google under "Hotels Annapolis MD".
Awards
Medals to all finishers; performance
shirts to all registered runners.
Awards to top three men and women in 5 year age groups.
